My continuing education has been really broad range — everything from cosmetic dentistry to just basic prosthetics, which means doing things like crowns and bridges, restoring implants, removable prosthetics like partials and dentures, basic sciences, pharmacology. A wide range of things so that I will be prepared to help my patients.
Decatur, AL dentist Dr. Charles Betts grew up mostly in Alabama. He is a husband, father, and grandfather who has been living in Decatur for more than 25 years.
Dr. Betts’ professional life began at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1989 with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. After graduation, he joined a practice in Decatur, which he purchased two years later. In 2000, he was awarded a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). The AGD awards this honor to those members who complete extensive continuing education requirements (a minimum of 500 continuing education credit hours) and successfully complete a comprehensive examination.
What attracted me to dentistry was the combination of art and science, the helping other people. Also the challenge and the reward of having my own business and being my own boss.
Dr. Betts’ goal has been to provide the kind of personalized treatment and service that he knows his patients deserve. He believes that there is more to being a good dentist than creating healthy smiles as he also values taking the time to get to know them. Dr. Betts loves his work, and many patients enjoy hearing him hum as he goes about his day.
My undergraduate degree was from Emory University in Atlanta, and I went to the University of Alabama Dental School in Birmingham. Since then, lots of continuing education. One of my goals when I graduated from dental school was to become a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, which I did, and that entails 500 hours of continuing education and an extensive comprehensive exam.
Mindful of the importance of continuing education and the improvement of dental practice, Dr. Betts is an active member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, Eighth District Dental Society of Alabama, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Wilson-Chenault Dental Study Club.
When not in the office, Dr. Betts enjoys travel, history, music, and spending time with family.
