Kids Get Excited for Dentistry
We felt that there was perhaps a missing segment in educating the young to take care of their oral health. We instituted what are called learning labs, which are just modules of education for kids. Kids can learn themselves, not just us preaching or Mom preaching, how to take better care of their teeth. We feel like learning labs help our kids know better about what to do for their oral health than if we gave them a sheet and said, read this or preach to them. We think it’s very important for children to get in the habit of taking care of their teeth, and really just being conscious of oral health because that sets them for life, especially young kids. As they move into teenage, they have some basic information, some basic concepts that they can carry through with them through college and own into adulthood.
We feel like the learning lab concept is important to develop children’s confidence in their ability to take care of themselves, and to have some tools to work with for better oral care and really better general health. The most rewarding thing about seeing kids experience the learning labs and get into a good oral care routine is that their oral health improves. Then we try to always affirm that improvement so that we will encourage them to continue that throughout their lives.
