Off to a Good Start
Family dentistry is an essential part of our practice. It’s in our name, after all.
That certainly includes pediatric dental care. Since February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, we wanted to share a friendly reminder about the importance of oral care for kids.
Good habits start at home, but we are more than prepared to support your efforts. We are happy to answer any questions you have about brushing, flossing, and making regular dental checkups part of your family’s oral care routine.
You can even bring your children to the office when you make your appointments for yourself. This can help them become familiar with us and what we do before they have their own first dental visit, usually around their 2nd birthday. We recognize that this is an important milestone. While we don’t have a red carpet to roll out for them, we let them know this is a special day for them.
One of our favorite parts of this appointment is our Learning Lab. This is where we show your child the equipment we use to keep their mouths healthy. We also can demonstrate how to brush and floss correctly when they are at home. This visit also includes some tips on making healthy food choices. Something small like drinking water instead of sugary soft drinks can help reduce their risk of developing cavities.
Ready To Meet Changing Needs
As your children get older, their oral care needs will change. By age 11, more than half of kids will have a cavity. If that happens, we are ready to help with dental fillings.
Of course, we prefer to prevent problems whenever we can. This is why we encourage you to take advantage of our professional cleanings and exams a few times each year. It’s also why we are happy to create custom-fitted athletic mouthguards for the budding sports stars in your family. These mouthguards are more comfortable to wear and offer better protection against broken and knocked out teeth.
Speaking of which, you also should call on us if you do have a dental emergency. Our goal is to help you get treated as quickly as we can, and often that means we can see you that same day.
