Dr. Charles Betts
Practicing Dentistry in Decatur for Nearly Three Decades
Dentistry is a profession where you have some creativity, as well as serving people's health care needs. And I like the combination of those two things, because I really get into rebuilding someone's mouth, for example, giving them a nice smile, but also just the health things of giving them good oral health and a healthy body.
I went to college at Emory University in Atlanta and went to dental school at The University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham. The most important and probably favorite continuing education course that I've taken have been in the areas of prosthetics, which is fixed and removable, because I enjoy, like I said, giving people a new smile, repairing a smile, but also just giving health in that respect. And then also most recently, periodontal treatment, because of the infection that is rampant in most of the U.S. population. Taking care of that infection impacts their overall health so much. And those are probably my favorite things right now. The most rewarding part of being a dentist is just immersing myself in the care of my patients and having a wonderful staff that helps me do that.

What attracted me to dentistry was the combination of art and science, the helping other people. Also the challenge and the reward of having my own business and being my own boss.
Dr. Betts’ goal has been to provide the kind of personalized treatment and service he knows his patients deserve. He believes there is more to being a good dentist than creating healthy smiles. That’s why he values taking the time to get to know his patients. Dr. Betts loves his work. He also loves music, and he often combines his two passions by humming as he goes about his day. Many of our patients enjoy having a melodious dentist!
Mindful of the importance of continuing education and improving his dental practice, Dr. Betts is an active member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, Eighth District Dental Society of Alabama, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Wilson-Chenault Dental Study Club.
When he’s not in the office, Dr. Betts enjoys travel, music, spending time with his family, and history. Dr. Betts has been interested in history for much of his life; he studied history as an undergraduate at Emory University.
